Here we are with our second Newsletter. Newsletter Number One got a great many positive reactions and feedback from its readers; we are very grateful for this as it means that De Suikertuin is as alive and kicking to you, our future guests, as it is to us. The Newsletter was received so well that we already got inquiries about our lunch menu and some people already wanted to make reservations! It is a little bit too early for that, we hate to admit, although we are already accepting reservations for parties and weddings starting June 1st. Our suggestion: start planning your hot dates and secret breakfast- and lunch meetings on a long-term basis, preferably in two months’ time. A new, and very welcome, addition to our two-men staff is Xandra, a well-known face from Délifrance, who has taken her smile with her and has decided to come and work for us. Great! Xandra is a wonderful waitress, warm and professional; her presence will make you feel right at home in the Wilhelminastraat. As you can imagine, we have not been twirling our thumbs in the past few weeks. Actually, we have been working our tails off, scraping, painting and overseeing our excellent workforce. If you have recently driven by De Suikertuin you may already have admired its new, elegant front: it has emerged from its cocoon like a lovely butterfly. The colors mustard and cream are understated and stylish, yet we predict that the outside bar is going to be a roadside hotspot for the curious and the young@heart. Together with Xandra, who came back in a hurry from her stay in Holland, we have tackled the inside of De Suikertuin: the window frames needed to be replaced and the toilets have been repaired and spiced up. Our fabulous handyman Nando has fashioned a wooden table around the big tree in the backyard. Now we are waiting with bated breath for the kitchen appliances to be shipped from the United States and for the finished products of our carpenter in the Frenchmen’s Pass to make their appearance in our restaurant. We promise you that the inside will match the outside and that you will love the place as much as we do. Photos show the prototypes of our furniture, Xandra caught in the act of painting, the mind-blowing front of De Suikertuin and various action shots of our renovation-in-progress. If you are not in a hurry, stop by to take a peek inside De Suikertuin. Thank you for your unflagging interest and we shall keep you posted of our progress in Newsletter Number Three. Willeke & Gaston
