Dear friends,
De Suikertuin is gearing up for a few special events, so it is high time to keep you up to speed about what has been happening in our restaurant and our plans for the near future.
It has been a while since our last Newsletter, so first, we go back to a few highlights that happened in our garden. The Prosecco Night was a big hit: everyone had a blast with Cuban singer Ramon and his son, who started out with amplifiers and singing into microphones but went `acoustic’ without batting an eyelid when the entire island experienced a black-out in the pouring rain. Candles and lightning was the illumination later that night. The Prosecco was plentiful and went down smoothly by the bucketful, it seemed; the food was great and the `ambiance’ was `truly tremendous.’
Then we received a famous guest from Belgium. You might not know her name, but Els de Schepper is a veritable celebrity in her country. She was on Aruba to work on her new stand-up comedy show, which premieres in November. Her shows have already sold out until mid-2010.
Els de Schepper absolutely loved De Suikertuin!
And now on to a new segment in upcoming Newsletters: our Guest of the Month.
Meet Nicky van der Kraats, who has been living on Aruba for two years now. She and her husband decided to come and live here after nine years of holidays on the island. With her husband working in Venezuela, Nicky finds fun and friends at De Suikertuin during weekdays and she reads the newspapers here. Say hello to Nicky when you see her.
In September De Suikertuin will have its first art exposition. And a series of lectures and workshops on spiritual and physical health is in the planning, as well as a wine tasting.
Furthermore every quarter we shall start embracing a good cause: De Suikertuin will have a weekly special which is sold for AWG. 18,-. Two florins of this amount will go towards our charity. A lovely wine has been selected that goes well with this special, and part of this price is also donated to our cause. The foundation Ban Uni Man pa Nos Muchanan (let’s get together to help our children), which hands out breakfasts to children who go to school hungry, will be the recipient. Should you wish to know more about this worthwhile cause, please ask for the flyer.
Anyway, we shall keep you in the loop about what is going on at De Suikertuin. Best of luck and see you soon!
